Segun Olanrewaju, aka Success, a Nigerian light-heavyweight boxer, has died after slumping during a boxing match in Ghana.
Gatekeepers News reports that Remi Aboderin, secretary-general of Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C), confirmed the incident on Sunday.
The 40-year-old boxer fell to the canvas in the third round of his match against Ghanaian opponent Jon Mbanugu without being struck by a punch.
The referee halted the match immediately, and medical aid was rushed to his side before he was taken to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Throughout his professional journey, the former West African and national light-heavyweight champion participated in 24 bouts, secured 13 wins, lost eight losses, and had three draws.
