Kanvevachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, a 15-year-old autistic Nigerian, has become a Guinness World Record (GWR) holder for the largest painting on a canvas by an individual.
Gatekeepers News reports that Tagbo-Okeke surpasses the previous record of 9,652 square meters set by an artist in Qatar.The 12,303-square-meter painting was unveiled on April 2 at Eagle Square, Abuja, coinciding with World Autism Awareness Day.
Dignitaries, art enthusiasts, and advocates for autism inclusion were present while the Guinness World Records certificate was formally presented to Taqbo-Okeke.
Speaking at the unveiling, Tagbo-Okeke’s father described his achievement as a testament to determination, noting that many initially doubted his ambitious goal.
He said. “Many thought Kanyeyachukwu’s goal was impossible, but he has proven otherwise.”
“This is a celebration for children with autism all over the world, showcasing their incredible talents.”
Also speaking, Hannatu Musawa, minister of art, culture, tourism, and the creative economy, praised Kanye’s success, noting that the achievement is not only for him but for Nigeria as a whole.
She said, “We are here to honor Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, a young Nigerian prodigy, who has shown the world what is possible when passion meets hard work.”
“By breaking this world record, Kanyeyachukwu has not only set a new record but has also demonstrated to us all that age is no barrier to greatness.”
“We are not only witnessing the breaking of a world record, but also the triumph of determination, perseverance, and the unrelenting spirit of the Nigerian youth.”

Cristian Munduate, UNICEF Nigeria representative also commended his achievement saying, “Kanye’s achievement proves that every individual, regardless of ability, has limitless potential. Societies must embrace diversity and create opportunities for all.”
Tagbo-Okeke is a talented artist whose works have been showcased in galleries and museums across Nigeria, Europe, and Africa. In 2018, his art was displayed at the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) exhibition in Vienna alongside three other Nigerian artists.
