Popular Nigerian comedian and filmmaker, Ayo Makun, also known as AY, has expressed his concerns over the excessive service charges imposed by Nigerian commercial banks.
Gatekeepers News reports that AY’s comments come as Nigerian banks continue to report substantial profits, despite the country’s struggling economy.
He emphasised the need to challenge the numerous small charges and debits on account holders’ accounts, highlighting that many of these fees are unique to Nigeria.
In a post on his X handle, AY questioned the source of these profits, stating, “Where do banks get the trillions they declare as profits every quarter, even in a struggling economy? The small charges and debits on our accounts need to be challenged. Many of these fees are unique to Nigeria. Why is that? #BankingFees #Nigeria #Transparency #Shalom”
