Forum of Economic Rights Activists (FERA) has responded to remarks made by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, regarding the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Gatekeepers Newreports that in recent interviews, Obi has criticised Tinubu’s leadership, alleging that the nation’s democracy is deteriorating under his governance and highlighting what he perceives as the ineffectiveness of Tinubu’s economic policies.

In a statement released on Friday, Moses Okino, the president of FERA, countered Obi’s evaluation of the current administration’s economic efforts.

Okino asserted that Obi’s comments do not accurately represent the results of ongoing reforms, particularly the removal of petrol subsidies, which he described as a crucial measure for addressing underlying economic challenges.

Additionally, Okino challenged Obi’s views on anti-corruption initiatives, arguing that significant progress has been achieved in areas that the former governor has criticised.

He labelled Obi’s remarks as “amateurish” and “dishonest,” accusing him of intentionally misrepresenting facts to support his narrative.

Okino encouraged Nigerians to critically assess political narratives and historical context as the country prepares for the upcoming 2027 general election.

“It is important for the electorate to make informed decisions based on a thorough understanding of both past leadership records and current political rhetoric,” the statement reads.

“Our counsel to those who still believe the rants of the Labour Party’s candidate is for them to step back and critically assess the situation.”

Okino urged politicians to “engage constructively and transparently” with the public as the nation continues to navigate its political and economic challenges.
