Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has restrained Ibok-Ete Ibas, the sole administrator of Rivers State, from appointing coordinators to oversee the 23 local government areas in the state.
Gatekeepers News reports that the court issued the restraining order following an ex parte application filed by Pilex Centre for Civic Education Initiative, a civil society organisation led by Courage Nsirimovu.
The applicant, Pilex Centre for Civic Education Initiative, sought an order of interim injunction to stop Ibas from appointing coordinators, citing concerns over the potential impact on the state’s governance. The organisation’s counsel, A.O. Imiete, movedvthe motion, which was granted by the court.
The presiding judge, Adamu Mohammed, ruled that Ibas should appear before the court to show cause why the application should not be granted.
The case has been adjourned to April 14 for hearing.
