On Friday, China announced a significant increase in tariffs on U.S. imports, raising the rate to 125%.
Gatekeepers News reports that the decision is a direct response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent move to impose a 145% tariff on Chinese goods, intensifying the ongoing trade conflict that has the potential to disrupt global supply chains.
This escalation follows the U.S. administration’s focus on China, which has been specifically targeted for additional tariff increases, while most of the reciprocal duties applied to other countries remain on hold.
“The U.S. imposition of abnormally high tariffs on China seriously violates international and economic trade rules, basic economic laws and common sense and is completely unilateral bullying and coercion,” China’s Finance Ministry said in a statement.
