Devastating helicopter crash in the Hudson River has claimed the lives of six people, including three children, according to New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
Gatekeepers News reports that the passengers were on a sightseeing flight from lower Manhattan, with the aircraft taking a popular route up the Hudson River.
The Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV helicopter, built in 2004, was in the air for approximately 16 minutes before crashing into the river. Flight tracking data shows the helicopter flew over the George Washington Bridge at around 1,000 feet before turning back south.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the crash. “A Bell 206 helicopter crashed and is submerged in the Hudson River in New York City,” the FAA stated.
At the time of the crash, the weather was cloudy with winds of 10-15 mph and gusts up to 25 mph. Visibility was good, but a system was moving into the region, bringing light rain.
