Women Protest Against Fubara’s Suspension – Rivers Emergency Rule

A group of women in Rivers state staged a protest on Friday, opposing the suspension of the stage Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and declaration of emergency rule.

Gatekeepers News reports that the women marched to the government house in Port Harcourt during the protest which began early in the morning.

They chanted slogans while carrying placards decrying what they refer to as an “unconstitutional state of affairs”, and demanded a return to democratic governance in the state.

‘We need our democracy restored’,
‘#BringBackFubara’, ‘Obey the rule of law’, and ‘Save our democracy, are some of the inscriptions on their placards.

In a statement signed by Nancy Nwankwo, Tamunobelema West, and Cynthia Amadi, the group said the actions of lbok-Ete lbas, the state’s sole administrator, are “becoming provocative and illegal.”

They called on prominent Nigerians, including former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Muhammadu Buhari, and Goodluck Jonathan, to intervene in the restoration of democratic rule in Rivers.
