Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled that suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari and four other police officers must defend themselves against charges of drug trafficking.
Gatekeepers News reports that Justice Emeka Nwite delivered the ruling on Friday, dismissing the defendants’ no-case submissions and holding that a prima facie case had been established against them.
Kyari and his co-defendants were arraigned on March 7, 2022, on charges of conspiracy to deal in 17.55 kilograms of cocaine and unlawful tampering with 21.35 kilograms of cocaine seized from two convicted drug traffickers.
The judge ruled that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence to warrant a defense from the accused.
The case has been adjourned to May 21 for the defendants to open their defense.
