Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, has expressed his ambitions to become Nigeria’s president.
Gatekeepers News reports that in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, aired on Tuesday, Makinde emphasized his capabilities in seeking the presidency.
Makinde, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor, remarked that the upcoming 2027 presidential election would not merely be a competition between political parties but rather a significant contest between the Nigerian electorate and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I don’t have any doubt that I have the capacity to occupy the highest office in this land, and I have what it takes, but what I want to do right now is this: Is this what Nigerians are asking for? Is this what my party will say we should do? We don’t know; we still have a long time to go,” he said.
“Where we are right now is that we must fix our party; we must have a platform for you to even aspire to be anything.
“Let me also say this: If my political journey ends right here, I am also very happy. When I joined politics in 2007, I wanted to go to the senate.
“I wanted to be a senator, but now, not only have I achieved more than that by being governor of my state, I have also cherished the opportunity that people have given to me to make my own little difference.”
