A Guiding Light For Millions— Tinubu Mourns Pope Francis

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Pope Francis, head of the Roman Catholic church.

Gatekeepers News reports that Tinubu in a personal condolence message on Monday, described Francis as a “humble servant of God” and a “guiding light for millions” across the globe.

The president said the timing of the Pope’s passing is a sacred return to his Maker at a time of renewed hope for Christians.

He added, “His Holiness served the Church and the Master of the Church until the end.”

“In 2013, he stepped onto the global stage with a message of mercy, urging us to see the face of Christ in the marginalised, the refugees, the migrants, and the forgotten.”

The president praised the Pope’s unwavering advocacy for justice, inclusion, and environmental protection. He highlighted the Pontiff’s encyclicals as both doctrinal and timely, offering spiritual clarity and hope in an increasingly complex world.

Tinubu recalled watching Pope Francis deliver the traditional Easter Sunday blessing from St. Peter’s Basilica just days before his death.

He lamented, “Alas, the Lord called him home a day after, making the world lose its most trenchant voice for justice and action against climate change.”

On behalf of the Nigerian government and people, Tinubu extended condolences to the Catholic Church, the global Catholic community, and Christians worldwide.

The president urged everyone to honour the Pope’s legacy by uplifting the downtrodden, healing communities, and defending human dignity.

He concluded, “May God Almighty grant His beloved servant eternal rest.”
