Simon Ekpa To Be Extradited To Nigeria For Supporting Nnamdi Kanu— Witness

A federal government witness in the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has testified that Simon Ekpa will soon be extradited from Finland to Nigeria to face charges over his support for Kanu.

Gatekeepers News reports that the witness, identified as “AAA” and a staff of Department of States Services (DSS), was part of the team that arrested Kanu on October 15, 2015, at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Lagos.

During cross-examination by Kanu’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi, the witness stated that although he was unaware of other people being prosecuted for supporting the Biafran cause, Ekpa had been arrested and was undergoing extradition proceedings for allegedly inciting violence in support of the movement.

He further confirmed that no weapons were found in Kanu’s possession at the time of his arrest.

Regarding a woman found in Kanu’s hotel room, the witness said she was not treated as a suspect after proving that she had met Kanu through social media, adding that she was adjudged to be innocent.

AAA said that although he had analyzed Kanu’s phone, the results were not submitted in court, as they were deemed irrelevant to the case. He also acknowledged that Kanu’s statement was obtained in the absence of legal counsel.

The witness said he wasn’t aware of anyone else who had been prosecuted by federal government for agitating for Biafra.

The trial was adjourned to May 6, 7, and 8, 2025.
