Prince Harry has lost a Court of Appeal challenge over the level of security he receives while in the UK.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Duke of Sussex had argued that the downgrading of his taxpayer-funded protection in 2020 was “unlawful” and that he was “singled out for different, unjustified and inferior treatment.”
In a statement following the ruling, the court found that while Prince Harry’s team presented “powerful and moving arguments,” his sense of grievance did not translate into a legal argument.
Judge Sir Geoffrey Vos emphasized that the decision was based on the law and the prince’s changed role within the royal family.
In an interview with BBC News in California, Prince Harry expressed his desire for “reconciliation” with the Royal Family. He also revealed that he is “devastated” about losing the legal challenge and that his father, King Charles, has cut off communication with him over the security issue.
“He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff,” Prince Harry said, adding that he didn’t know how long the King had left to live.
A Home Office spokesman welcomed the court’s decision, stating that the government’s security system is “rigorous and proportionate.”
