Women in Rivers State staged a dramatic walkout from an empowerment programme facilitated by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, on Friday.
Gatekeepers News reports that the event, held at the EUI Event Centre in Port Harcourt, was disrupted when the women refused to accept the presence of Mrs. Ibas, wife of the state’s sole administrator.
The women chanted “We want SIM!” and “We want Valerie Fubara!” as they insisted that only the wife of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara should address them. One of the women was quoted as saying, “We don’t know Ibas. Tinubu is our President, and our governor is Sim Fubara.”
This protest is the latest reaction against Governor Fubara’s suspension by President Bola Tinubu in March. On May Day, workers in the state refused to participate in the usual celebrations and instead protested what they described as an emergency rule in the state.
