House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has summoned Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia; Zamfara state Governor, Dauda Lawal; and their respective state Assemblies, to appear before it on Thursday, May 8.
Gatekeepers News reports this follows a petition submitted by the civil rights group, Guardians of Democracy and Rule of Law,which urged the House to consider taking over the constitutional functions of both state legislatures due to the worsening security situation.
The summon was contained in a statement issued by Head of Media, House Committee on Public Petitions, Chooks Oko.
Oko noted that the invited parties are already familiar with the concerns raised in the petition.
He added, “ The executive and legislative arms of the two states are to appear before the committee to explain why their constitutional functions should not be taken over by the House of Representatives because of the insecurity.,”
