Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the suspended senator representing Kogi Central, has asked a federal high court in Abuja to dismiss a motion filed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which seeks to compel her to delete a satirical apology she posted online.
Gatekeepers News reports that Akpabio’s legal team, led by Kehinde Ogunwumiju, filed the motion on Monday, requesting the court to order Akpoti-Uduaghan to remove the post from her social media accounts.
They also requested that senator Natasha publish an official apology in two national newspapers, and submit an affidavit confirming her compliance.
In response, Natasha, represented by lawyer Jubril Okutepa, argued through a counter-affidavit that her post did not breach any court order and that Akpabio’s motion was a calculated effort to intimidate and silence her.
She described the action as malicious and an infringement on her constitutional rights to free expression and fair hearing.
The senator said, “That the instant motion is borne of malice and intended to harass, intimidate, and scandalise me for exercising my constitutionally guaranteed right to fair hearing and to free expression.”
The court is expected to rule on the motion and the counter-affidavit on May 12.
