Edo PDP Slams Tony Aziegbemi – Says He Is Responsible For Party’s Past Crisis

Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded to recent statements by former factional chairman, Tony Aziegbemi.

Gatekeepers News reports that the party in a statement by Bob-Manuel Umoru,
Publicity Secretary Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, accused Aziegbemi of distracting the party with irrelevant commentary and blaming him for the party’s decline during his leadership.

PDP described Aziegbemi’s tenure as one of the most destructive eras in the party’s history, adding that under Aziegbemi’s leadership, the party witnessed an unprecedented decline from commanding electoral strength to internal chaos, mass defections, and total loss of public confidence.

The party criticised Aziegbemi for blaming Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, for the party’s current challenges.

According to the party; the real damage was caused by Aziegbemi and his political ally, former Governor Godwin Obaseki, whose leadership style was “divisive and vindictive”.

It added, “ It is not lost on the people of Edo that the PDP once stood as a united, result-oriented political movement, only to be torn apart by greed, arrogance, and a blatant disregard for democratic principles.

Despite the past turbulence, the current PDP leadership in Edo said it is focused on rebuilding, reconnecting with disenchanted members, reviving party structures, and restoring public trust.

The party further warned Aziegbemi to desist from making further public remarks and allow the party to concentrate on its recovery.

It added, “ History has recorded his ignoble role in the PDP’s near-collapse. Going forward, Edo people are charting a new course, one rooted in accountability, inclusiveness, and progressive leadership. Shame and dishonour will forever follow those who contributed to the party’s fall from grace to grass.”
