Gunmen on Saturday, attacked Government Day Secondary School in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara state.
Gatekeepers News reports that Yazid Abubakar, Zamfara police spokesperson, in a statement on Sunday, revealed that the incident left one person dead while three others were kidnapped.
He said, “It has been confirmed that the incident happened last night around 10 p.m. The school is Government Day Secondary School, so no students were present.”
“They (the gunmen) came through the staff quarters area, broke through the fence, entered the premises, and killed Malam Kabir Abdullah, who was retired.”
“He was a retired teacher. He resisted abduction and was later killed. Three females, including the retired teacher’s wife, were kidnapped.”
“Our men (the police) are on the ground to ensure safety, and we are working on their rescue.”
The attack adds to the worsening insecurity plaguing Zamfara and several other northern states, where cases of abductions and killings have surged.
Earlier this year, on March 7, over 200 students were abducted in a similar raid at Government Secondary School, Kuriga, Chikun LGA of Kaduna State.
Just days later, on March 12, bandits kidnapped 61 people in Buda community, Kajuru LGA. In February, six people were killed during a violent invasion of Kwasam community, Kauru LGA, where retired CBN director Zakariya Markus was also kidnapped.
