Former Aviation Minister Osita Chidoka has commended the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for admitting to a technical error that affected 379,997 results in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Gatekeepers Newreports that in a statement, Chidoka expressed support for the affected candidates and praised JAMB’s decision to allow them to retake the examination between May 16 and May 19, 2025.

He described JAMB’s admission of fault as “a commendable act of public accountability” and a demonstration of integrity.

“Unlike many other public agencies, JAMB did not resort to the all-too-familiar refrain of ‘go to court’,” Chidoka said.

“Instead, it acknowledged its shortcomings, invited critical stakeholders for dialogue, and subjected its internal processes to external review.”

Chidoka’s comments come after JAMB released the results of the 2025 UTME on May 9, which showed that over 78% of candidates scored less than 200 points out of a maximum of 400.

The board’s review revealed a technical error that compromised results in 157 exam centers.
