Police Launch Manhunt Over Killing Of Lawyer And One Other In Anambra

Anambra State Police Command has commenced an intensive investigation following the murder of two individuals including a legal practitioner by suspected armed men at Egbebelu village in Nanka, Orumba North LGA.

Gatekeepers News reports that the command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga revealed this in a statement on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

Ikenga revealed that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, led a team of senior officers, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) and experienced detectives, to the crime scene around 11:30 a.m.

The victims were attacked while returning from court by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle. One of the deceased, the legal practitioner, had earlier secured bail for a defendant in an ongoing murder case at High Court II, Ekwulobia.

The command’s spokesman noted that one of the victims survived the attack and is currently undergoing medical treatment, adding that the survivor has been debriefed and has provided vital information that is already assisting ongoing investigations.

He noted that the corpses of the deceased have been recovered and positively identified by their families. A red Toyota Camry, believed to belong to one of the victims, was also found at the crime scene.

According to the statement; the Commissioner of Police has ordered an intensive investigation into the incident and deployed tactical and intelligence teams to track down the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.

The command assured the public that updates will be provided in due course as the investigation progresses.
