2 Die As Mexican Navy Ship Crashes Into Brooklyn Bridge

A maritime accident occurred on Saturday, in New York City when a tall Mexican Navy training ship, the Cuauhtémoc, crashed into Brooklyn Bridge.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident resulted in two fatalities and at least nineteen others sustained injuries.

According to authorities, the ship carrying 277 people, lost power as the captain was manoeuvring the vessel, forcing it to head for the bridge abutment on the Brooklyn side.

Footage shows the ship’s towering masts struck the bridge as it passed underneath, breaking apart and crashing onto the deck. Some crew members were stationed on the masts when they snapped.

Mayor Eric Adams confirmed via X that two people lost their lives, and two of the injured remain in critical condition.

The U.S. Coast Guard stated that all three of the Cuauhtémoc’s masts were destroyed, though all individuals aboard were accounted for and none were thrown overboard.
