Nyesom Wike, Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has denied claims of an ongoing political feud with Simanalayi Fubara, Rivers State Governor, who was recently suspended from office.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a recent interview with BBC Pidgin, Wike clarified that his disagreement is not with Fubara himself, but with politicians who are allegedly manipulating the Governor.
He said, “That one is not a battle. He (Fubara) is my boy; he is my son; why will I fight with him? I’m only fighting against people who want to steal what they did not work for.”
“When you don’t defeat them; they will think you… so, defeat them to the end. Now, they are ashamed because they are being defeated. They are the ones pushing Fubara.”
Recall that the tension between Wike and Fubara began in 2023 over control of the political structure of Rivers State and has caused sustained political instability in the state.
Wike also addressed rumours of his interest in 2027 presidential race, noting that he has no intention to run against President Tinubu.
He said, “ “I will not contest. Why will I contest against someone I’m working for?”
When asked about Tinubu’s chances in the next election, Wike expressed full confidence in the president’s re-election prospects, saying there is no one in the opposition strong enough to challenge the president.
He added, “They said they will zone it to the south; let them zone first. When we get to the bridge, we will know how to cross it.”
