Nollywood Actress Grace Bassey Joins US Navy – Gets Citizenship

Nigerian actress Grace Bassey, formerly known as Belinda Effah, has enlisted in the United States Navy and completed boot camp, earning her military status and US citizenship.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the 35-year-old actress shared the news on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the challenges she’s faced in America, which have strengthened her resolve and determination.

Bassey dedicated her achievement to her late father, Naval Commander Asido Bassey Effah, who served in the Nigerian Navy.

She wrote: “…Last week, I graduated from U.S. Navy boot camp as a Sailor and took the oath as a citizen of the United States.

“This journey wasn’t easy — but I carried my roots, my faith, and my vision every step of the way.

“Nigeria raised me. America challenged me. I stand today stronger and more determined than ever.

“Thank you to everyone who believed in me. This is just the beginning.

“In Honor of my Late Father – Naval CDR Asido Bassey Effah.”

The actress began her career in Nollywood with her debut in the 2005 TV series “Shallow Waters.” She later changed her name from Belinda Effah to Grace-Charis Bassey after a transformative personal experience, describing her new name as a gift from God.

Bassey isn’t the only Nollywood actress to join the US armed forces; Princess Chineke also enlisted in the US army in December 2024.
