Oyo Govt Promises Justice For Student Killed By Stray Police Bullet

Oyo State Government has promised to work with the state police command to investigate the killing of a student by a stray bullet fired by a police officer in Ibadan.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the incident occurred when police officers were chasing a vehicle for driving against traffic.

According to the government, the police were conducting a routine operation against traffic infractions on Alakia Old Road following complaints from residents about constant one-way traffic violations.

The government stated that the father of the slain student was driving a tinted black Honda Accord Car with registration number FST 639 JU against the traffic, prompting the police to attempt to apprehend him.

In a statement, the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, said, “The incident was totally avoidable, and we urge residents to stay calm while the police and the government work together to handle the situation. We also warn against breaking traffic rules.”

The government promised to ensure justice is served and reassured the public that steps would be taken to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.

“We will work with the police command to investigate the matter and ensure that justice is served,” the government added.
