Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have arrested 20 suspects for allegedly hacking the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Gatekeepers News reports that the suspects are believed to be part of a larger syndicate of over 100 individuals specializing in hacking examination bodies’ computer servers.
According to Channels Television, the suspects confessed to sabotaging the exam to discredit JAMB and discourage students from using computer-based testing (CBT) for future exams.
They allegedly charged candidates between N700,000 and N2 million for high scores, using private schools and colleges as operational bases.
The UTME this year was marred by complaints from candidates, including issues with exam centers and technical errors.
JAMB later admitted to a technical error affecting 379,997 candidates’ results and conducted a re-sit examination for those affected.
