Eid-Ul-Adha: Sultan Declares May 28 As First Day Of Dhul Hijjah 1446 AH

Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Wednesday, May 28, 2025, as the first day of Dhul Hijjah 1446 AH.

Gatekeepers News reports that Yahaya Muhammad Boyi, Secretary of the Moon Sighting Committee (MSC) announced this in a post on X on Tuesday evening.

He wrote, “ Assalamu Alaikum”

“His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto has declared Wednesday 28/05/2025 as the first day of Dhul Hijjah 1446 AH.”

Hence, Eid-ul-Adhaw which falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah will be observed on Friday, June 6, 2025.

The announcement came a few hours after authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced sightings of the Dhul Hijjah crescent.

Haramain, a Saudi-based online news platform, had through a post on X, announced that Wednesday would be the first day of Dhul Hijjah.

The post reads, “The crescent moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia — Dhul Hijjah 1446 begins tonight.”

“Day of ‘Arafah: 5 June 2025; Eid Al-Adha: 6 June 2025.”

“May Allāh accept the Hajj of the Hujjaj and our worship and allow us to make the most of these blessed days. Aameen.”
