A two-storey building currently under construction collapsed at Otta Ona Junction, near the Mobil Filling Station bus stop in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the tragic incident resulted in the death of three individuals and left several others injured.

In response to distress calls, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) activated its emergency response plans. Teams were deployed from the Agbowa, Alausa, and Cappa bases to the site of the collapse.

Upon reaching the scene, LASEMA’s Lion, Tiger, and Eagle Response Teams found three individuals trapped under the rubble. Unfortunately, despite rescue efforts, a teenage girl and two adult males were recovered deceased. However, nine adult males were successfully rescued and received care from LASEMA’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit.

The cause of the building’s collapse has yet to be determined, and LASEMA has initiated an investigation to understand the factors contributing to the structural failure. The building was still under construction when it collapsed.

To aid in the rescue operations, LASEMA utilized heavy-duty equipment, including an excavator, to clear debris and locate any trapped victims. Floodlights were also deployed to ensure visibility during nighttime operations. The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the Igbogbo Police Division.

As search and rescue operations continued, LASEMA stated that the affected building is in the process of being demolished to ground level to ensure the safety of emergency personnel and the public.

The operation involved several agencies, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigerian Police Force, the Lagos State Building Control Agency, and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
