Kano State Police Command has arrested 41 individuals in relation to the murder of Baba Ali, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for the Rano division.
Gatekeepers News reports that Baba Ali was killed on Sunday following an attack on the Rano Police Station, during which assailants set parts of the station and two vehicles on fire.
This attack occurred after the death of Abdullahi Musa, a motorcycle mechanic, who had been taken into custody earlier that evening due to multiple public complaints regarding his reckless riding.
While in police custody, Musa’s health declined, prompting officers to rush him to Rano General Hospital, where he subsequently passed away the next morning.
In a statement released on Thursday by Abdullahi Kiyawa, the police spokesperson in Kano, the command condemned the killing as a serious threat to societal safety and pledged to seek justice. Kiyawa reported that Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the commissioner of police in Kano, has assured the community of the police’s commitment to apprehending and prosecuting all individuals involved in these incidents.
“The police are working tirelessly to ensure that no stone is left unturned in apprehending all those involved in this dastardly act,” the statement reads.
While commending members of the public for their cooperation and condolences, the command urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting the ongoing investigation.
“The command honours the memory of CSP Baba Ali and commends the bravery of officers and men who risk their lives daily to keep our state safe,” Kiyawa added.
He also reiterated the command’s resolve to maintain law and order across the state and called on citizens to stand united against threats to peace and security.
