Kano zonal office of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commenced an investigation into the arrest of two men allegedly found with $899,800 in counterfeit currency.
Gatekeepers News reports that EFCC in a statement on X on Saturday, revealed that the suspects were arrested by operatives of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) along Maiduguri road in Wudil, Kano state.
EFCC noted that the suspects were traveling in a commercial Golf 3 car on their way to Kila village in Gwaram LGA of Jigawa state.
The statement reads, “Upon search, the NDLEA team discovered the suspected fake notes concealed inside a Maggi Star seasoning carton. The suspects and exhibits were subsequently handed over to the EFCC for further investigation.”
The suspects, identified as Abubakar Hussaini and Sahabi Adamu, are currently in EFCC custody.
The statement added, “Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects were transporting the counterfeit currency to Kila Village to meet one Muhammad Walo, who was to introduce them to Mallam Mashiru, a self-proclaimed spiritualist claiming to be capable of
‘transforming’ counterfeit dollars into genuine currency through ritual prayers.”
The anti-graft commission said the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
