Coco Gauff has won her maiden French Open women’s singles title, taking home £2,166,912 as the winner.
Gatekeepers News reports that she relayed from a set down to defeat Aryna Sabalenka in the final held on Saturday at Court Philippe-Chatrier.
The 21-year-old American overturned an early deficit against Sabalenka, eventually triumphing 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 in a repeat of their 2023 US Open final clash.
Sabalenka narrowly edged the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6, after a fierce contest. However, Gauff responded with a dominant 6-2 second set before sealing the championship with 6-4 win in the final set.
The victory marks Gauff’s second Grand Slam title, following her US Open triumph last year.
She is also the first American woman since Serena Williams in 2015 to lift the Suzanne-Lenglen Cup.
