Carlos Alcaraz staged a remarkable comeback to claim the Roland Garros men’s singles title on Sunday.
Gatekeepers News reports that Alcaraz defeated the world No. 1, Jannik Sinner, in a five-set thriller: 4–6, 6–7(4), 6–4, 7–6(3), 7–6(2), marking his fifth major title at 22.
The 22-year-old Spaniard overturned a two-set deficit and survived three championship points in the fourth set, eventually triumphing in a dramatic fifth-set tiebreak.
The match lasted five hours and 29 minutes. Alcaraz sealed victory with a stunning passing shot down the line, collapsing to the clay as the Court Philippe-Chatrier crowd erupted in celebration.
Alcatraz said later, “I just want to say thank you for everything (to) my team, my family.”
“I have the privilege to be able to live great things with you. … This trophy is yours as well.”
“This tournament for me is really, really special. I can’t wait to come here year after year.”
