Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, on Thursday, ordered the release of cash to patients in public hospitals within Maiduguri Metropolis and inmates at the Maximum Security Correctional Centre also located within the metropolis
Gatekeepers News reports that over 2000 patients in various hospitals will get the sum of N50,000 each from the governor while 1,280 inmates get N20,000 each.
In the same vein, Governor Zulum also announced the pardon of 66 convicted inmates serving various jail terms at the Maximum Security Correctional Centre in Maiduguri.
Zulum disclosed visitation to various locations within the metropolis, which include the State Specialist Hospital, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital ( UMTH) as part of activities to commemorate Democracy Day.
The governor donated 300 bags of rice and 5 balls to inmates, urging them to repent from their previous deeds and learn new skills while serving their terms
” The pardon was based on the recommendations made to me,” Zulum said.
“In exercise of my powers under the Constitution, I hereby grant a state pardon to 66 inmates,” the Governor said, adding that some sentences, especially those serving life terms, would be reviewed and reduced.
Prof Zulum also took time to commission 20 road projects, as well as commence the construction of two hospital projects
The hospitals include Borno Orthopaedic Hospital, cited in Goni Kachallari, and a new General Hospital in Kaleri, all in the Jere Local Government Area.
In the six years of his administration, Zulum has undertaken more than 1,000 projects in education, healthcare, agriculture, road networks, water, and environment, among other critical projects.
