FG Gives Gombe N60bn To Launch Agro-Livestock Industrial Zone

Federal government has given Gombe State Government N60 billion to establish a 184-hectare Agro-Livestock Industrial Zone.

Gatekeepers News reports that Governor Inuwa Yahaya announced this during the groundbreaking ceremony held in Gombe on Saturday.

The Governor described the project as a major milestone in efforts to establish a modern, efficient, and sustainable livestock economy.

He noted that the initiative is expected to generate thousands of jobs, enhance productivity, and position Gombe as a key hub for animal processing in Northern Nigeria.

According to Yahaya, the N60 billion represents the first tranche of a N120 billion support package pledged by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Yahaya commended the Federal Government’s commitment to prioritising livestock development through such strategic investments.

He said, “Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has confirmed the receipt of N60 billion support from the Federal Government for the establishment of a 184-hectare Agro-Livestock Industrial Zone in the state.”

“Yahaya disclosed this in Gombe on Saturday during a ground-breaking ceremony for the establishment of the zone.”

“He said that President Bola Tinubu’s administration had pledged N120 billion support towards the establishment of the zone and out of that, released part of the money.”

The Governor noted that the livestock zone will include an ultramodern abattoir, an international livestock market, fattening hubs, a tannery and leather factory, a world-class grains and livestock feeds market, and an inland dry port.

The facilities are designed to meet global standards for food safety, processing efficiency, and export readiness.

Yahaya described the Gombe Ultramodern Abattoir as a transformative project that will improve meat processing not only in Gombe but across the Northern region.

The Governor said an automated facility will enable hygienic and efficient operations, including packaging and distribution for both local and international markets.

He also pointed out that the project will end the outdated and unsafe practice of transporting live animals over long distances, shifting the focus instead to value-added processing that supports farmers, traders, and exporters.

Also speaking at the event, Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Maiha, reaffirmed Federal Government’s commitment to revitalizing the livestock sector.

He noted that the Gombe project aligns with national efforts to boost local animal processing capacity and reduce reliance on imports.

Maiha also noted that once operational, the facility would have the capacity to process 500 bulls, 1,000 small ruminants, and 3,000 poultry birds daily.
