Cyberattacks: Akpabio’s Aide Petitions IGP – Demands Probe Of Tunde Ednut – Rufai Oseni

Kenny Okolugbo, special adviser on communications and strategy to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has petitioned Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police (IGP), over alleged cyber-attacks and defamation by prominent social media influencers.

Gatekeepers News reports that in the petition dated June 16, 2025, Okolugbo alleged that his verified X account (formerly Twitter) was hacked and used to circulate a false statement.

He added that the post was further manipulated and circulated by influencers Tunde Ednut (@mazitundeednut), Rufai Oseni (@ruffydfire), and Adeola Fayehun (@adeolafayehun).

Okolugbo accused the influencers of embellishing the content with fabricated claims, including allegations of phone cloning, voice manipulation, and a supposed meeting in London.

He described the incident as a “syndicated disinformation campaign,” noting that the false content was shared simultaneously using similar language, suggesting coordination.

Okolugbo also linked the campaign to earlier allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, asserting that the aim was to damage his reputation.

He urged the police to investigate the alleged hacking and prosecute those behind the impersonation and defamation under Nigeria’s Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

The special adviser also requested that digital evidence from social media and third-party service providers be preserved for forensic investigation.

To support his claim, Okolugbo attached travel records showing he had not visited London in 2025, with his last trip to the UK occurring in November 2024, refuting claims of any meeting abroad.

Okolugbo reiterated a past claim made on March 6 regarding a seating arrangement dispute between Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Akpabio.

According to Okolugbo, the controversy stemmed from unresolved anger over Natasha’s removal as chairperson of the Senate Committee on Local Content.

He said, “ The fact of the matter was that her seat was removed, and there was already bottled-up anger because she was removed from the local content committee.”
