UK Court Jails Nigerian Care Worker For Kissing Patient

A United Kingdom court has sentenced Adewale Kudabo, a York hospital worker, to one year in prison for sexually assaulting a patient.

Gatekeepers News reports that he was sentenced on June 10 after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual assault at the start of his trial in April.

The presiding judge, Alex Menary stated that Kudabo had abused the trust placed in him as a healthcare professional, stressing that the victim had relied on him for care and safety.

The judge added that Kudabo will serve half of the one-year sentence before becoming eligible for release.

According to the Prosecutor, Henry Fernnandez, Kudabo had been assigned to bathe the patient, who was in severe pain. After completing the bath, he kissed her on the lips.

Although the victim tried to move away despite her condition, she was unable to avoid the kiss. This caused emotional distress for the victim, including anxiety and flashbacks.

Fernnandez added that a few days later, Kudabo approached the patient again, offering another “bed bath” and attempted to kiss her once more. The victim was left confused and deeply uncomfortable by both encounters.

The York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which oversees York Hospital, issued an apology to the victim and confirmed that Kudabo left his position shortly after the incidents occurred.

Defense attorney, Jerry Sodipe, noted that Kudabo had no prior criminal record and expressed remorse for his behavior. He added that Kudabo was moved to sympathy for the patient’s pain but recognised that his conduct was wrong.

Sodipe added that Kudabo had relocated from Nigeria to UK with his family for work but has since lost his job following the case.
