American singer R. Kelly was hospitalised after experiencing what his lawyer described as a near-fatal overdose while in prison.
Gatekeepers News reports that following the incident, his legal team submitted an emergency request for his temporary release, citing concerns for his safety.
Currently 58 years old, Kelly is serving a 30-year sentence in North Carolina for charges related to sex trafficking and racketeering.
Reports indicate that he collapsed in his solitary confinement cell on June 13, just three days after being placed in isolation.
Kelly’s lawyer, Beau Brindley, alleged that he received a dangerously high dose of medication on June 12, during his time in solitary confinement.
The following day, he reportedly fainted and was rushed to Duke University Hospital, where medical professionals warned that the medication could have been lethal.
