NCoS Suspends 2 Officers Over Attempt To Process Passport for Inmate

Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has suspended two of its personnel for attempting to process an international passport for an inmate.

Gatekeepers News reports that Umar Abubakar, NCoS public relations officer, announced this in a statement.

Abubakar noted that the misconduct was uncovered two weeks ago through automated passport processing systems and comprehensive reforms recently implemented by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

Abubakar added that the detection was a result of inter-agency collaboration and cooperation, noting that the actions of the officers contradicted established protocols and were deemed completely unacceptable.

The statement reads, “Subsequently, necessary disciplinary actions were taken including the suspension of the two
(2) correctional personnel implicated in the incident by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), chaired by the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubumni Tunji-Ojo.”

“The Controller General of Corrections (CGC)
Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche MFR mni, has reiterated his commitment to upholding discipline, transparency, and professionalism in all custodial centres across the country.”

“The Service categorically states that any personnel found engaging in acts of misconduct, corruption, or sabotage will be shown the way out of the system.”

Abubakar assured the public of the agency’s continued commitment to its mandate of safe custody, humane treatment, and reform of inmates in line with global best practices.
