Gunmen have abducted EG Umokoro, a high court judge, in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa state.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred around 7pm on Saturday in front of a popular eatery in the Ekeki area, along Chief Melford Okilo expressway.
The attackers allegedly blocked the judge’s vehicle, abducted him, and abandoned his car at the scene.
Musa Mohammad, the police spokesperson in the state confirmed the judges’ abduction on Sunday.
He noted that the command has deployed tactical teams and drones to rescue the victim and apprehend the kidnappers.
The spokesman added that surveillance footage is being reviewed and investigations are ongoing to bring the culprits to book.
Mohammed further dismissed social media reports claiming that the hoodlums were dressed in police uniforms.
He said, “If somebody is wearing white, it does not mean black is a police uniform. What makes it a police uniform is the accoutrement. These hoodlums were not dressed in police uniforms.”
“We are still reviewing our cameras, and the analysis is still going on.”
