President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rejected the National Assembly Library Trust Fund (Establishment) Amendment Bill, 2025, due to concerns related to legal and financial implications.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, Tinubu acknowledged the bill’s positive intentions but noted that it includes provisions that are inconsistent with current federal laws and government policies.

“While the bill pursues commendable objectives, some of its provisions are inconsistent with established laws and policies of the Federal Government of Nigeria,” Tinubu wrote.

He flagged issues with the proposed funding system, taxation of federal entities, public service remuneration, and age and service limits, warning that signing the bill in its current form could set a “problematic legal precedent.”

The President urged the lawmakers to revise the bill to fit constitutional and fiscal standards.

The amendment aims to expand the National Assembly Library Trust Fund’s scope and propose new ways to fund it.

With the President’s rejection, the bill now returns to the National Assembly for possible revision or override.
