Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has criticised Umar Damagum, Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for directing Samuel Anyanwu to resume as the party’s national secretary.
Gatekeepers News reports that Wike, while speaking at the inauguration of interchange bridges in Abuja, Wike questioned Damagum’s authority to issue such a directive.
“National secretary is not your appointee,” Wike said. “He has been doing his work. You can’t call him to resume because of the illegalities you perpetrated.”
Wike accused Damagum of “perpetrating illegalities” in the party and not “showing leadership.” He expressed disappointment that the party’s leaders are meeting with INEC on whether to obey the Supreme Court judgment or not.
Damagum had earlier announced Anyanwu’s resumption as national secretary, describing the resolution as “difficult.” However, Wike argued that Anyanwu has been working as national secretary and doesn’t need anyone to direct him to resume duties.
“When you shoot yourself, you say somebody shot you. Continue to shoot yourself; I will not be a party to that,” Wike said.
The crisis in the PDP revolves around the national secretary seat, with both Anyanwu and Sunday Udeh-Okoye laying claim to the position.
