On Thursday, the Senate confirmed Oludare Sunday and Kabir Kataka as the new Managing Director and Executive Director of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).
Gatekeepers News reports that the decision followed a report presented by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, which Senator Adetokunbo Abiru from Lagos East chairs.
Senator Abiru highlighted the committee’s findings and encouraged the Senate to endorse the nominations.
He said, “The Senate received and considered the report of the Committee on the confirmation of the nominations for appointment as Managing Director and Executive Director of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation.”
The nominations were initially forwarded by President Bola Tinubu in May, in accordance with statutory procedures.
Following the President’s request, which Senate President Godswill Akpabio read during a plenary session, the nominations were directed to the relevant committee for thorough evaluation.
With the Senate’s approval, Oludare Sunday and Kabir Kataka are set to assume their roles at the NDIC immediately.
Their appointments are anticipated to enhance the stability of Nigeria’s banking and financial sector, an essential component of the country’s economic system.
