At least four people have been confirmed dead and 18 others injured following two separate improvised explosive device (IED) explosions in Gujba LGA of Yobe state.
Gatekeepers News reports that Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, revealed that the first explosion occurred on Friday morning along the Goniri-Buni Yadi road near Bultaram village, when a commercial pickup van carrying traders to the weekly Buni Yadi market, ran over an IED.
Three of the passengers died upon arrival at the Yobe State Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, while 18 others sustained various injuries and were admitted for treatment.
Hours later, a second explosion occurred in the same vicinity when an unidentified motorcyclist stepped on another IED. He was rushed to the Buni Yadi General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Security and emergency response teams, including explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) units and local vigilante groups, have been deployed to the area to conduct clearance operations and prevent further casualties.
