US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday night that Israel has agreed to a 60-day ceasefire with Hamas.
Gatekeepers News reports that Trump made the announcement via his Truth Social media platform, stating that the US will work with all parties to end the war during this period.
“The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring Peace, will deliver this final proposal,” Trump said.
“I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”
The proposed ceasefire comes after months of deadlocked talks between Israel and Hamas, primarily due to disagreements over the terms of the truce. Israel demands the ability to resume fighting after the ceasefire, while Hamas wants the temporary truce to become permanent.
Trump will host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House next week, where he plans to be “very firm” on ending the war in Gaza. “He wants to,” Trump said of Netanyahu’s willingness to reach an agreement.
The news of the potential ceasefire comes after a previous deal reached in January suffered a setback in March due to an Israeli attack in Gaza that killed over 300 people. Netanyahu authorised the attack, citing Hamas’s refusal to release Israeli hostages.
