Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has commissioned a newly constructed access road leading to the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport in Sokoto State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the commissioning ceremony was part of the activities marking Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto’s administration’s second anniversary.
Keyamo also flagged off the construction of a ₦1.5 billion VIP lounge at the airport, a project undertaken by the Sokoto State Government. The lounge is expected to boost passenger comfort and project a positive image of the state.
Governor Aliyu, in his remarks, assured that the lounge will be equipped with modern facilities to offer travellers a world-class experience.
Speaking during the event, Minister Keyamo highlighted the significance of collaboration between federal and state governments in delivering critical infrastructure that enhances air travel, safety, and passenger convenience.
He emphasised that the federal government remains committed to investing in aviation infrastructure, which he described as vital to economic growth, regional integration, and national pride.
Keyamo said, “ This airport is a gateway not just to Sokoto but to the entire North-Western region. These infrastructure upgrades are crucial for enhancing passenger experience and facilitating regional development.”
Governor Aliyu revealed that the access road was reconstructed at the cost of ₦1.22 billion, noting that it would significantly improve access to the airport, ease mobility for passengers, and stimulate local economic activities.
The event was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, state officials, and aviation stakeholders, among others.
