Kaduna To Begin Free Bus Service For Workers – Students – Retirees On Monday

Kaduna State Government has announced the commencement of a free bus service for civil servants, students, and retirees, beginning Monday, July 8.

Gatekeepers News reports that Inuwa Ibrahim, Director-General of the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA) in a statement on Sunday, noted that the initiative will run for six months. After the initial phase, a 60 percent transport fare subsidy will be introduced for the general public.

Ibrahim said the scheme covers students in both public and private schools from primary to tertiary levels.

The DG emphasised that the programme is part of Governor Uba Sani’s broader commitment to improving the welfare of residents, especially workers, the elderly, and the youth.

To access the service, civil servants must present a valid staff ID card along with a corresponding National Identification Number (NIN), while students must be in their complete school uniforms. Personnel from recognized security agencies can also use the buses upon presenting valid identification.

He said the buses will operate on three routes, including Rigachikun–Kawo–Kasuwa–Sabo, Sabo–Kasuwa–Kawo–Rigachikun, Rigachikun–Kawo–Independence Way–Yakowa Road, and Yakowa Road–Independence Way–Kawo–Rigachikun.

Others include Tudun Wada – Poly road – Sokoto road – Kawo and Kawo – Sokoto road – Poly road – Tudun Wada.

Ibrahim also cautioned commuters against rushing or jumping queues while boarding the buses.

This development follows the recent commissioning of 100 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses in Kaduna by President Bola Tinubu on June 19, aimed at improving affordable public transport in the state.
