Minister of Regional Development Engr Abubakar Momoh on Monday called on Development Partners to focus more attention and resources towards assisting the North East Region following the over a decade destruction of infrastructures carried out by Boko Haram Terrorists.
Gatekeepers News reports that Hon. Momoh said Borno State in particular, which is the epic centre of the 16-year insurgency, need urgent attention, especially Maiduguri, the State capital and Jere Council area, which suffered devastating flooding in September last year.
This was disclosed when the Minister, who is on inspection of projects executed by the North East Development Commission (NEDC), an agency under his ministry, paid a courtesy visit to the Borno State Deputy Governor, Hon Usman Kadafu, at the Government House, Maiduguri.
According to the Minister, who commended the Managing Director of NEDC, Alh. Mohammed Alkali, for implementing Federal Government Intervention projects scattered across the North East, said more support is required from development partners so that the state can rebuild most of its infrastructure destroyed by Boko Haram terrorists and flooding.
“I want to use this opportunity to call on Development Partners to continue to see that they can assist the people of North East, and Borno State in particular, to overcome some of the infrastructural challenges occasioned by flooding and activities of Boko Haram terrorists.”
The Minister assured the Federal Government that the NEDC will continue to impact lives positively through its intervention projects.
Borno State Deputy Governor, Hon Usman Kadafur, who received the Minister and his entourage, commended the Federal Government for the many people-oriented projects executed in Borno State through the NEDC.
“I wish to commend the NEDC for its interventions in Borno State. We always knock at their doors and they always respond promptly,” Kadafur said.
