Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a license for Enugu Air to initiate domestic flight operations.
Gatekeepers News reports that this announcement was made by Michael Achimugu, the NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, on Monday.
Enugu Air was inaugurated on July 7, 2025, by Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, during a ceremony that included Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah. The airline has begun its commercial operations with a fleet of three Embraer 170 aircraft, each capable of seating approximately 76 passengers.
Although Enugu Air has received an interim license from the NCAA, it is currently partnering with XEJet while completing the necessary process to obtain its own Air Operator Certificate (AOC). This approval allows Enugu Air to commence flight services using XEJet’s operational framework and aircraft. A completed variation process has integrated the Embraer aircraft into XEJet’s Operations Specifications.
Ticket reservations for Enugu Air are being handled through the XEJet platform, accessible via a redirect on the airline’s official website. This arrangement is in line with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development’s 5-Point Agenda, which focuses on fostering the growth of indigenous airlines and creating a conducive environment for business operations.
The NCAA has confirmed that XEJet is authorised to operate scheduled commercial flights on behalf of Enugu Air as part of the Authority’s five-phase certification process.
“The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) approves the commencement of domestic flight operations by Enugu Air, in line with the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development’s 5-Point Agenda aimed at promoting the growth of indigenous airlines, the DGCAs mantra, enhancing ease of doing business, and deepening sectoral reforms.
“Enugu Air has designated XEJET as its operational partner pending the conclusion of its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) process.
“Pursuant to this partnership, XEJET has completed a full variation process to integrate the EMB 170 aircraft into its Operations Specifications (OpsSpecs), in accordance with the NCAA’s five-phase certification procedure. As such, XEJET is duly authorised to operate scheduled commercial flights on behalf of Enugu Air under current NCAA guidelines,” the statement read in part.
The NCAA also reaffirmed its commitment to upholding high standards of safety, security, and consumer protection while fostering fair competition across Nigeria’s aviation sector.
