North East Development Commission (NEDC) on Friday handed over food and non-food items to victims of recent flooding and attacks by Boko Haram terrorists in Damboa, Chibok, and Gwoza Federal constituency.
Gatekeepers News reports that the NEDC intervention is meant to cushion the effects of losses suffered by respective Local Government Councils after recent flooding and Boko Haram Attacks.
The NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali who was representing the Borno State Coordinator of NEDC Mohammed Umar revealed that the NEDC is also giving out relief packages to refugees from Cameroon and Chad who had fled Boko Haram attacks
According to the state coordinator, the relief items will be handed over to representatives of affected communities who are members of the Borno State House of Assembly representing the affected Council Areas, A member of the House of Representatives representing Damboa/Chibok/Gwoza)Hon. Usman Jaha and Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume represent the Southern Borno Senatorial District.
“Based on the needs assessment that was carried out, the management of NEDC approved some relief items to cushion the effects of flooding and attacks by insurgents,” Umar said.
The state Coordinator assured that the NEDC will continue to reach out to residents of the North East pointing out that ” the relief materials we’re handing over today are one aspect of fulfilling our mandate as NEDC .”
Items donated include thousands of bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, gallons of vegetable oil, and other condiments to those who were affected by the recent flood disaster in Chibok, Damboa, and Gwoza, as well as victims of renewed Boko Haram attacks in five communities of the Gwoza local government councils.
The Commission also donated building materials such as 200 bundles of roofing sheets, 2000 ceiling boards, 200 cartons of nails, 500 bags of cement, 250 pieces of blankets, and 200 mats for onward distribution to displaced people of Ashigashiya who have since resettled back to their liberated community in Gwoza local government.
” Other items include 100 pieces of wrappers, 100 pieces of children’s wear, 100 pieces of Shadda Broc, 200 pieces of mats, and 100 pieces of mosquito nets.
“For the flood victims in Chibok and Damboa, the State Coordinator said, “1,500 bags of rice, 500 bags of sugar, 1,500 cartons of spaghetti/Macaroni and 1,500 gallons of vegetable oil.
“Others include 2,000 pieces of children’s wear, 2,000 men’s wear, 2,000 women’s wrappers, 2,000 pieces of blankets, and 2,000 pieces of branded mats.
“The Commission has donated 200 bundles of roofing sheets/zinc, 2000 ceiling Boards, 200 cartons of nails, 500 bags of cement, 250 pieces of blankets, and 200 pieces of mats through Senator Ndume for onward distribution to Ashigashiya returnees,” the State Coordinator said.
