Sokoto Declares July 15 Public Holiday To Mourn Buhari

Sokoto State Government has declared Tuesday, July 15th, 2025, as a public holiday to mourn the passing of former President and elder statesman, General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd).

Gatekeepers News reports that this was announced in a statement by Abubakar Bawa, Director General of Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto on Monday, 14th July, 2025.

Bawa noted that the decision aligns with the resolution of the North West Governors’ Forum, which has declared a public holiday across all states in the zone in honor of the late former President.

The spokesman noted that with this development, Tuesday, July 15th, 2025, will be observed as a work-free day across Sokoto State.

Ahmed Aliyu, the state Governor urged the people of Sokoto State to use the day to pray fervently for the repose of the soul of the late President.

He also prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive General Buhari’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him eternal rest.

General Muhammadu Buhari passed away on Sunday in London after a protracted illness. His funeral prayers will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, in his hometown, Daura.

The statement concluded, “May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
