Body of former President Muhammadu Buhari has departed London, United Kingdom, for Katsina State, Nigeria, ahead of his burial.
Gatekeepers News reports that Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military head of state from 1983 to 1985 and as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, passed away on Sunday after a prolonged illness.
According to Channels TV, the former president’s body was airlifted by the Nigerian presidential aircraft from London on Tuesday morning.
President Bola Tinubu has declared Tuesday a public holiday in honor of Buhari, in addition to the seven days of national mourning previously declared.
The body will be received by President Tinubu in Katsina and transported to Daura for the funeral prayer and interment at the late president’s residence.
